Information about the KCS

The Koordinierungsstelle Chancengleichheit Sachsen (KCS) was established at the Chemnitz University of Technology in 2009. It has been affiliated with the University of Leipzig since 2015. The KCS is active state-wide for the entire higher education sector in Saxony and is financed by the Saxon State Ministry for Science and the Arts.

The KCS was called the "Coordination Office for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities at Saxon Universities and Colleges" until it was renamed in 2021.

Goals

The KCS provides support to universities in Saxony in the realisation of legal, state and university-specific goals in the area of equal opportunities and the implementation of the corresponding objectives in the university development planning of the Free State of Saxony. Our mission is to work in collaboration with the universities to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities in the university education sector, regardless of various diversity characteristics. Special emphasis is placed on equality and inclusion work.

The KCS oversees the joint activities of the universities, facilitating collaboration and networking between equality and diversity officers, officers for students with disabilities and chronic illnesses, and other actors engaged in equality and inclusion work at the universities.

The objective of the KCS is to implement a systematic monitoring process and enhance the quality and efficiency of activities in the field of equal opportunities across universities.

Tasks

The objectives of the coordination office result in the following key tasks, which apply to the two content areas of inclusion and equality:

Quality assurance and quality development

  • Transfer of federal policy developments in the area of equal opportunities
  • Documentation and systematisation of relevant qualitative and quantitative data as well as framework conditions and activities in the field of equal opportunities (including surveys, factbook )
  • Content support of the SMWK and the LRK in the derivation of quality standards, fields of action, goals and measures
  • regional and supra-regional committee work

Support and advice

  • Advising universities on participation and fundraising in state and national funding formats and programmes.
  • The provision of advice and scientific support in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies, goals and measures in the area of equal opportunities, including equality concepts, diversity concepts and action plans for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
  • Networking, coordination and visibility of universities’ activities in the field of equal opportunities.

Professionalisation

  • Promoting knowledge and skills acquisition through workshops and information events
  • Starter kits and basic workshops for newly elected representatives
  • Conception and organisation of events
  • Creation and provision of compressed information for use at universities (including guidelines, dossiers)

With its offerings, KCS is primarily aimed at:

  • Equal Opportunities Officer
  • Representative for students with disabilities and chronic illnesses
  • Consultants in the field of diversity and anti-discrimination
  • University management and the State Rectors’ Conference
  • Landeskonferenz der Gleichstellungsbeauftragten ( LaKoG )

Offers in the field of inclusion

  • Advice and scientific support for inclusion actors at Saxon universities and colleges in the planning and implementation of measures to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (e.g. preparation and implementation of university action plans for inclusion, regulations on compensation for disadvantages, accessibility, etc. ) as well as the acquisition of third-party funding
  • Representation of the KCS to the SMWK, the SMS, the State Rectors’ Conference and institutions with an inclusion policy mandate in Saxony and nationwide
  • Organisation and conception of specialist conferences, training courses, workshops and working group meetings
  • Information and advisory service for university management, university-related service facilities and inclusion policy actors in Saxony within the framework of the tasks of the coordination office
  • regional and supra-regional committee and network work
  • Independent acquisition of third-party funding
  • Target group-specific offers in collaboration with partner organisations (for example, for art and music colleges in collaboration with the Service Center for Inclusion in the Cultural Sector)
  • Advice on inclusion resources and aids

Offers in the area of equality

  • Advice and professional support for women's and equal opportunities officers at Saxon universities and colleges in the planning and implementation of measures to promote equal opportunities (e.g. female professors' program , research-oriented equal opportunities standards of the DFG, mentoring projects , family-friendly measures, diversity management, gender-equitable personnel development, target agreements and much more) as well as the acquisition of third-party funding
  • Representation of the KCS vis-à-vis the LaKoG , the SMWK, the SMJusDEG, the LRK and institutions with an equal opportunities policy mandate in Saxony and nationwide
  • Organisation and conception of specialist conferences and discussions, further training, workshops and working group meetings
  • Information and advisory service for university management, university-related service facilities and equal opportunity policy actors in Saxony within the framework of the tasks of the coordination office
  • Participation in various committees (bukof, Saxon Equal Opportunities Advisory Board) and support of the LaKoG
  • Independent acquisition of third-party funding
